GUATEMALA: Route of the Mayas (June 1-12, 2013)
Travel back 1700+ years of mystery and majesty to an advance Neolithic culture of the Mayans. For the first time, the American Museum of Ceramics Arts (AMOCA) is hosting a special “members only tour”. This group will trek the jungle brush among Howler monkeys to toucans, leading to the sites of Tikal and Uaxactun, formidable archeological sites of the Mayan empire. Walk the cobblestone streets of ancient Antigua (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) with her Spanish colonial buildings, churches, and monasteries. Visit the colorful art galleries and museum, each filled with clay and stone artifacts of the Ancients. Open-air markets will satisfy appetites for colorful pottery, exquisite silver jewelry, hardy wood carvings, and incredible hand-woven textiles. Fresh air to fresh fruits will engage your senses. Special visit to nationally known ceramist Carlos Chacon and a local pottery enclave of San Antonio Palopo will peak our clay lovers interests. Please join me, host Patrick Crabb, for this highly unique tour. We are in the new Bactun Cycle of the Mayan calendar…a special alignment for camaraderie, excitement, adventure, wisdom, and knowledge. Contacts:
